Project evaluation
My initial plan for this project was to create a rap music video but through research I developed my ideas and decided to transition from a rap music video to an r&b video as it allowed for more scenery footage instead of footage of people. This project went through different processes of planning. Firstly I started planning by researching rap videos and analyzing different rap music videos. Soon after this I began watching videos on youtube about what makes a good music video and through developing my ideas I decided to change my idea to be an r&b video as where I live there is a lot of beautiful scenery to capture and use to my advantage in this video.
I found the filming challenging as i had to walk around to a lot of different locations to get the clips for my video, i also found the research hard as i didn’t find many reliable sources however the editing, color correcting and planning is what I found easier.
Although a lot of the videos and websites I visited weren’t very helpful, some of the websites such as the budget music video tutorial and music videos on YouTube that I used for inspiration.
To create my video I used the internet to gather the information I needed, my phone and a Panasonic handy cam, premier pro, an mp3 converter and my friends. Through this project I encountered a few problems, one of them being the distance that i had to travel in order to get the clips that i wanted there was not much i could do about this problem so i walked far and traveled on public transport to get my clips, another problem had was when i broke my phone whilst filming again there wasn’t much i could do about this but i did borrow a panasonic handycam from my collage to get the rest of my clips filmed. Although I had a problem with traveling for the filming, the actual filming process itself was enjoyable and went well apart from my phone breaking. To improve the efficiency of my filming process next time I will use a tripod to keep my camera stable. I will also plan certain times in the day to visit different filming locations so I can get the theme I want, for example planning to leave at 6 to catch the sunset.
Overall I believe that this project was a successful piece of work as I got all the clips I wanted and I created the aesthetic I wanted it to be. Although i found it successful i still believe i can do better if i made more time to focus on the editing another thing that i could’ve done better was the research section, if i took more time to find constructive advice and if i were to do this i believe it would have improved the overall value of my project. In the next project I will use the skills learnt such as the camera angles I learnt and implemented. I will also use some of the editing skills I acquired through this project like color correction.
